RECIPE

From strawberry and banana to a coffee blend and a tropical green smoothie

A few freezer staples and a blender are all you need to get started. These three smoothies offer something fruity, something coffee-based and something a little more tropical.

Why you’ll love these recipes

Each makes one large smoothie and takes around five minutes to prepare. Frozen fruit gives a thicker texture, while a splash of extra milk makes them easier to sip.

1. Strawberry and banana protein smoothie

A creamy, familiar combination with a scoop of vanilla protein powder.

Ingredients

  • 1 small banana, peeled and sliced
  • ¾ cup frozen strawberries
  • ¾ cup milk of your choice
  • 1 serving vanilla protein powder, as directed on the packet
  • 1 tsp honey, optional

Add the milk to your blender, followed by the remaining ingredients. Blend until smooth, adding more milk if needed. Taste before adding the optional honey.

Think iced coffee with a creamy banana and peanut butter twist.

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana, peeled and sliced before freezing
  • 1 espresso shot, cooled
  • ½ cup milk of your choice

3. Mango, spinach and lime smoothie

Mango brings the sweetness, yoghurt adds creaminess and lime gives it a tangy finish.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen mango
  • 1 small handful baby spinach, washed
  • ⅓ cup plain Greek yoghurt
  • ½ cup milk of your choice
  • 2 tsp lime juice, plus more to taste

Method

Blend the milk and spinach first, then add the mango, yoghurt and lime juice. Blend until smooth. Taste and add a little more lime if you prefer a sharper finish.

Tips and easy swaps

  • Use decaf espresso for the coffee smoothie if you prefer.
  • Swap peanut butter for sunflower seed butter for a different flavour.
  • Use dairy-free milk and yoghurt if needed, checking protein powder ingredients too.
  • Serve straight away for the best texture.

Key takeaway

Keep sliced banana, strawberries or mango in the freezer so your next smoothie is just a quick blend away.
